Which Crypto Exchanges Have a MiCA Licence in Europe?
Since the end of the MiCA transitional period on 1 July 2026, crypto-asset service providers operating in the EU must hold the required authorisation or qualify for an applicable regulatory exemption. Several well-known crypto exchange brands have already obtained such authorisations, but the status of each legal entity and the scope of the services it provides should be checked individually.

Which Crypto Exchanges Have MiCA Authorisation?
Examples of major exchange brands with entities holding MiCA authorisation include OKX, Coinbase, Gate and Kraken.
However, a brand name alone does not confirm that all services offered under that brand are covered by the same authorisation. An authorisation applies to a specific legal entity and a defined range of crypto-asset services.
Before opening an account, it is worth checking which entity will provide the service and whether the platform in question is available in the user's country.
How Can You Check a Crypto Exchange's Regulatory Status?
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) maintains a public register of authorised crypto-asset service providers.
When checking an exchange, pay attention to three key points:
Legal entity: Identify which company will provide the service.
Authorisation status: Check whether that entity appears in the official register.
Services and availability: Verify which services are covered by the authorisation and whether the platform is available in your country.
This matters because obtaining authorisation does not automatically mean that every product or service offered under a particular brand is available throughout the EU. Nor does it guarantee that the exchange already has a functioning trading platform for European users.
Is There an Easier Way to Find an Exchange Operating Under MiCA?
Checking the ESMA register independently can be complicated. Moreover, obtaining MiCA authorisation does not necessarily mean that an exchange offers a functioning trading platform to European customers.
Our platform, micaintelligence.com, simplifies this process. We compare exchanges that hold the required authorisations and have functioning platforms available to European users. This allows you to find suitable options more quickly without having to analyse complex registers yourself.
