About MiCA Intelligence
An independent comparison of regulated European crypto exchanges.
Why MiCA Intelligence was created
Choosing a crypto exchange has never mattered more.
Anyone who wants to buy Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies in Europe now faces dozens of available platforms and one basic question: which exchange can be trusted?
Many of the rankings and comparisons available online are built around affiliate programmes or sponsored partnerships. For a user it is often hard to judge how much of the order shown reflects a genuine assessment and how much reflects the site's business model.
MiCA Intelligence was created so that the choice of a regulated European crypto exchange rests on facts, not on advertising or arbitrary rankings.
Since 2024 the MiCA regulation (Markets in Crypto-Assets) has applied across the European Union. For the first time in the history of the European crypto market there are common rules setting out what an exchange must meet in order to provide its services legally within the European Union.
MiCA Intelligence compares only such exchanges.
Choosing an exchange does not have to be a matter of chance.
What does a regulated crypto exchange mean?
A regulated European crypto exchange is an entity holding the authorisations required by the law in force across the European Union.
Obtaining a licence means, among other things, meeting defined requirements on how the business is run, how risk is managed, how clients are protected, and supervision by the competent national authority.
A licence obtained in one member state allows services to be provided throughout the European Union under what is known as passporting.
At the same time it is worth remembering that the MiCA regulation does not say which exchange is best. It only sets the minimum standards an exchange must meet in order to operate legally.
Holding a MiCA licence is not a guarantee that funds are safe or that a profit will be made. The regulation governs how an exchange operates, not the outcome of an investment.
Three routes to choosing an exchange
Everyone makes decisions differently. That is why MiCA Intelligence offers three independent tools to help you choose a regulated European crypto exchange.
Ranking
For people who want to see an independent list of regulated European crypto exchanges prepared under a single set of assessment rules.
Exchange Match
For people who know which features they expect from an exchange and want to find the platforms that best meet their requirements quickly.
Investor Archetype Test
For people who want to understand their own way of making decisions better and receive recommendations of exchanges matched to their psychological profile.
MiCA Intelligence at a glance
The platform was designed to make an informed choice of a regulated European crypto exchange easier. The key facts are below.
Regulated European crypto exchanges only
We compare only exchanges holding a licence under the MiCA regulation or other applicable European Union law.
Three tools, one goal
The Ranking, Exchange Match and the Investor Archetype Test help you choose an exchange in the way that suits your needs best.
12 investor archetypes
The Investor Archetype Test analyses how you make decisions and presents the result as one of twelve archetypes, together with an independent Investment Awareness Age.
One independent ranking
Every exchange is assessed through the same process. Affiliate programmes do not influence the order of the ranking.
Where our data comes from
The credibility of a comparison depends on the quality of the data.
That is why the information published on MiCA Intelligence comes first of all from official sources made available by exchange operators. We use their fee schedules, terms, documentation, information materials and information provided by exchange representatives.
To keep the comparison fair, we present all fees under the same rules. Trading commissions, for example, are shown at the standard rates that apply to new users. We do not include discounts for high trading volumes or reductions for holding an exchange's token, because they are not available to every user and make offers harder to compare directly.
If we cannot confirm a piece of information in a reliable source, we do not include it in the comparison.
Exchange offers change over time, so we update the information we publish as operators make changes. Before opening an account it is always worth checking the current details directly on the official website of the exchange you have chosen.
How the ranking is built
The MiCA Intelligence ranking is built through a single assessment process applied to every exchange.
Every platform is analysed under the same rules, regardless of its size, how well known it is, or whether it works with MiCA Intelligence.
The order of the ranking is decided solely by the result of the assessment. Partnership agreements, affiliate arrangements and the level of any remuneration MiCA Intelligence receives have no influence on the position of any exchange.
We measure an exchange's accessibility from the perspective of a European Union audience, not its global breadth: the number of interface languages covers only the 24 official EU languages, so interfaces in languages from outside the Union do not raise the assessment. Likewise, the number of supported currencies covers the currencies of EU member states plus five currencies close to European users: the British pound, the Norwegian krone, the Icelandic krona, the Swiss franc and the US dollar. In the same way, the list of supported stablecoins covers only tokens whose issuers are authorised in the Union, because exchanges holding a MiCA licence cannot offer the rest to customers in the Union.
We show the withdrawal fee and the deposit fee for every exchange, but we do not score them and we do not point to a cheaper offer among them. Exchanges calculate these fees in ways that cannot be compared: one quotes a flat amount, another a percentage of the sum, a third a network fee that changes over time. Rating such figures against one another would suggest a precision this data does not have. Maker and taker trading fees are scored as before - every exchange quotes those as a percentage, so they can be compared.
We deliberately do not publish the detailed scoring or the full assessment methodology. This keeps the ranking independent and limits the scope for optimising an offer for the scoring system itself rather than for what users actually need.
We update the ranking regularly and recalculate it whenever we observe a change in an exchange's data, so the order reflects what the exchanges offer today rather than what they offered on the day of the first assessment.
Our goal is not to build a ranking that is easy to game, but a tool that helps people make more informed decisions.
Our principles
From the outset we have built MiCA Intelligence on a few simple principles.
One set of assessment rules
Every exchange goes through the same assessment process and is compared against the same criteria.
Independence
Affiliate programmes and commercial partnerships do not influence the order of exchanges in the ranking or the results of the tools we provide.
Comparability
We present data in a consistent way, so that users can compare individual exchanges easily.
Up-to-date information
We update the information we publish as exchange operators make changes. If you spot something out of date, let us know through the contact form.
How we earn
MiCA Intelligence is free for users.
Links leading to exchanges may be affiliate links - this applies to both buttons shown for an exchange: the one leading to registration and the one leading to its home page. It means that if you go through to an exchange's website and meet the conditions of its affiliate programme, we may receive remuneration from its operator. Where we hold no such link for an exchange, the button leads to its plain address and we receive no remuneration.
This does not influence the order of exchanges in the ranking or the results of the tools available on the Service.
We believe that being open about how we are funded is part of building trust.
What we do not do
Just as important as what we do is what we deliberately do not do.
- We are not a crypto exchange.
- We do not hold user funds.
- We do not act as an intermediary in transactions.
- We do not provide investment, financial or tax advice.
- We do not make investment decisions on behalf of users.
- We are not an institution of the European Union or a supervisory authority.
Our role is to provide reliable information and tools that help people make more informed decisions.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I legally buy Bitcoin in Europe?
The safest starting point is to choose a regulated European crypto exchange holding a licence under the MiCA regulation. MiCA Intelligence compares only such exchanges and helps you choose the platform that best suits your needs.
How does a regulated crypto exchange differ from the rest?
A regulated exchange operates in line with the requirements set out in applicable law and is supervised by the competent authority. That means meeting defined operating standards, but it is not a guarantee that funds are safe or that a profit will be made.
Does a MiCA licence guarantee that my funds are safe?
No. A MiCA licence sets out requirements for how an exchange operates, but it does not remove the risk involved in investing and does not guarantee that funds are safe or that a profit will be made.
How do I choose a crypto exchange as a beginner?
There is no single exchange that suits everyone. If you want a quick comparison, start with the Ranking. If you know which features you expect, use Exchange Match. If you want to understand your own way of making decisions better, start with the Investor Archetype Test.
Why are some crypto exchanges missing from the ranking?
MiCA Intelligence compares only regulated European crypto exchanges that meet the publication criteria adopted by the platform. This means every exchange shown operates in the same regulatory environment and can be compared fairly.
An informed choice starts with reliable information
Whether you are buying your first cryptocurrency or have been active in the market for years, choosing an exchange is one of the most important decisions you make.
MiCA Intelligence was created so that this decision rests on facts, clear comparisons and tools that help you find the exchange best matched to your needs and to the way you make decisions.
